How to Use the Currency Converter

Our currency converter lets you check the latest exchange rate between any of 25+ currencies and the Pakistani Rupee. Simply select the currency you are sending from, enter the amount, and see how many PKR your recipient will receive. The converter uses mid-market exchange rates from open exchange rate APIs, refreshed throughout the day.

For the most accurate remittance comparison, use our Remittance Optimizer instead — it factors in transfer fees and exchange rate margins to show you exactly how much your family will receive through each service.

Understanding Exchange Rates: Interbank vs Market Rate

The rate you see on our converter is the interbank mid-market rate — the rate at which banks trade currency with each other. This is the "real" rate you will find on Google and Reuters. However, remittance services and banks add a margin (typically 1-3 PKR per dollar) on top of this rate, plus fixed transfer fees. That is why the amount your recipient actually receives is slightly lower than what the converter shows.

For example, if the interbank rate is 278.45 PKR per USD, Wise might offer 277.85 (a 0.6 PKR margin) while Western Union might offer 275.50 (a 2.95 PKR margin). On a $1,000 transfer, that difference adds up to over 2,350 PKR.

Common Mistakes When Converting Currency

  • Only comparing transfer fees, not exchange rates. A "zero fee" service often makes up for it with a worse rate.
  • Using your bank for international transfers. Banks typically charge 3-5% in hidden rate margins plus wire fees.
  • Not checking the rate on the day you send. PKR can move 0.5-1% in a single day.
  • Assuming the rate you saw yesterday is still valid. Rates change throughout the day.
  • Forgetting to account for receiving bank fees in Pakistan, which can be PKR 500-2,000 per transfer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How often is the exchange rate updated?
Our rates are sourced from open exchange rate APIs and updated approximately every 5 minutes during market hours. However, these are indicative mid-market rates — the actual rate you receive from a remittance service may differ.
Why is the rate on your site different from what my bank offers?
Banks add a margin (typically 2-5%) on top of the interbank rate to cover their costs and profit. Our converter shows the mid-market rate. Always compare the total amount your recipient will receive, not just the rate.
What is the best time of day to send money to Pakistan?
Exchange rates fluctuate throughout the day. PKR tends to be slightly weaker (more PKR per dollar) on Thursday-Friday and during Asian trading hours. However, the difference is usually small (0.2-0.5%). For large transfers, set up rate alerts.
Does SaleOye.pk charge any fees for using the converter?
No. Our currency converter is completely free. We earn through affiliate links when you click through to a remittance service — this does not affect our rankings or the rates displayed.
